Research Priorities Workshop

Goals

Taking place in July 2018, this workshop prioritized the types of extreme precipitation events that will be studied, based on the local and regional impacts that were most concerning to our stakeholders.

Day One

The first portion of the workshop was spent discussing procedures stakeholders follow when making their decisions (when, what, which information is used). Our team also gained knowledge about the constraints of predictability in real-world settings and how uncertainty is incorporated into decision-making.

Day Two

In the second half of the workshop, stakeholders collaborated in a full-group roleplaying exercise where they were required to make decisions based off of real forecast products. This allowed the research team to determine how existing products are used and understood. The workshop culminated with discussion about which extreme precipitation event types are most aligned with the focus of our research activities.
