Updates from the PIs

July 2020

It has been a privilege to be the lead principal investigator for the PRES2iP project over the past three years. Since we were last together, we have seen new people join our team, students graduate with BS and MS degrees, numerous publications and presentations concerning the stakeholder workshop in 2018 and ongoing research on extended heavy precipitation events that you have all contributed to. As you will see in our July newsletter, we have been working hard to understand these events from multiple perspectives including advanced statistical techniques and impact-based assessments. As we move into the final two years of the project, we work towards understanding and improving the prediction of these events as well as how to communicate such predictions.

I had hoped that we would be ending the third year of our PRES2iP project with us all together in Norman for our second stakeholder workshop, but alas that was not to be. Our sponsors (the National Science Foundation) have fully supported our decision to postpone this year’s workshop. While I’m disappointed we don’t get to work with you all in person, I’m looking forward to learning from you all remotely over the next year and sharing the science that your inputs have already shaped.

Thank you all for all your contributions so far and I hope you enjoy the newsletter. Don’t forget to check out our newly updated website and follow us on Twitter if that is your cup of tea (@pres2ip)!
